The UK Spouse Visa (also referred to as the Marriage Visa) enables the spouse, civil partner, or fiancé(e) of a UK resident to join them and live in the United Kingdom. This visa falls under the UK family immigration route, which allows family members of UK residents or citizens to reunite and build their lives together in the UK.
To apply for a UK Spouse Visa, you must meet the following requirements:
Relationship Requirement – You must be legally married to, in a civil partnership with, or planning to marry/enter a civil partnership with a UK resident or citizen within six months of arriving.
Genuine Relationship – Evidence must be provided to prove the relationship is genuine and ongoing.
Financial Requirement – The couple must demonstrate a minimum combined annual income of £18,600, with higher thresholds if children are included.
Accommodation Requirement – Adequate accommodation must be available for the couple and any dependents, without reliance on public funds.
English Language Proficiency – Applicants must prove their ability to speak, read, write, and understand English through an approved test or qualification.
The initial UK Spouse Visa is granted for 30 months (2.5 years).
It can be extended for a further 30 months.
After 5 continuous years on this visa route, applicants may be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
