UK Skilled Worker Visa

Who Can Apply for the UK Skilled Worker Visa?

Note: If you or your family are from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein and were living in the UK before 1 January 2021, you may be eligible for the EU Settlement Scheme instead of applying for a Skilled Worker Visa.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Approved Employer – The sponsoring employer must be licensed by the UK Home Office.

• Confirmed Job Offer – A valid job offer must be secured before applying.

• Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) – Provided by the employer, detailing the job role offered in the UK.

• Eligible Occupation – The role must be on the UK’s official list of eligible occupations.

• English Language Proficiency – Applicants must demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, usually by passing an approved test or meeting exemption criteria.

• Job-Specific Requirements – Additional eligibility criteria may apply depending on the role.

Duration of Stay

• A Skilled Worker Visa is typically valid for up to 5 years.

• Before expiry, you must apply to extend or update your visa if changing jobs or employers.

• There is no limit to the number of extensions, provided eligibility requirements continue to be met.

• After 5 continuous years, you may apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), granting permanent residency.
